How things have changed - it's not only women who do the shopping and look after the housekeeping these days, and times are much harder for banks and savers. Founded in 1944, the Abbey National Building Society became a bank in the late 1980s. It later dropped the "National", and then even the "Abbey" too, after it was taken over by the Spanish bank Santander, which imposed its own name and corporate identity on the business. I can remember those old long-gone leather-effect passbooks with "Abbey National Building Society" (written in gold letters, I think), as depicted in the advertisement. I also remember the "man and woman under the brick-built umbrella" logo, and the slogan "Get the Abbey Habit", which clearly couldn't have been invented yet as it doesn't appear in this advert. As for using "Get the Santander Habit" as a slogan, it wouldn't really work, would it?
